President Bola Tinubu has appointed Vice President Kashim Shettima to head Nigeria’s delegation to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
President Tinubu, who returned to Nigeria last Sunday following diplomatic visits to China and the United Kingdom, opted to focus on pressing domestic matters, particularly the aftermath of recent severe flooding that has impacted parts of the country.
In his capacity as head of the delegation, Vice President Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national address to the General Assembly, participate in key side events, and engage in bilateral discussions with global leaders.
The General Debate, which runs from Tuesday, September 24, to Saturday, September 28, 2024, will center on the theme “Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations.”
