Nigerians on social media have knocked the presidency over allegations that the Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, turned against President Muhammadu Buhari because his requests for contracts were turned down.
Mbaka, who supported Buhari in his first and second term elections, recently called for the President’s resignation or impeachment over worsening insecurity.
The Nation reports the fiery Catholic cleric asked the National Assembly to impeach Buhari if he fails to arrest the insecurity challenge.
But in its reaction on Friday, the presidency said Mbaka “asked for contracts as compensation for his support.”
Many Nigerians accused the Presidency of retorting to cheap blackmail instead of addressing other pertinent issues.
Former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani said: “Our Revered Father Mbaka crossed the Red Sea to Yemen and realised it was not the Promised Land.”
Ex-Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose said: “The Presidency and Father Mbaka are nothing but blackmailers and scammers. They don’t deserve the attention of Nigerians.”
Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan aide Reno Omokri said: “So, according to the @NGRPresident, Reverend Father Mbaka went to see General @MBuhari with 3 contractors, and requested for contracts as compensation for supporting Buhari. The President recorded that meeting. My question to Mbaka: Is it true? Are you so cheap?”
FS Yusuf stated: “Garba Shehu is shamelessly telling us that Rev Mbaka asked for some contracts as gratification for supporting Buhari – ladies and gentlemen, please does this changes the fact that Buhari is a blatant failure? Does this changes the fact that this country is run by terrorists?”
Demola Olanrewaju argued: “A part of me wants to argue that Mbaka as a political contractor wanting contracts in exchange for the political support he moved for Buhari in the SE is not bad, since Sheikhs and Imams also likely get some. But the ‘South’ is very objective on stuff like these.”
Henry Shield said: “So because Mbaka allegedly asked for contracts, it is okay for terrorists to keep killing us? Pls make me understand Garba’s message.”
“They attack Kukah and Mbaka and no Christian calls it an attack on Christianity. Complain about a terrorist sympathiser in government and they will start shouting,” Seyi Bankole stated.
