A 35-year-old man, Emmanuel Urhobocha, has reportedly taken his own life at his residence on Alafia Street in Sango-Ota, located within the Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident to PUNCH Online on Saturday, stating that it occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Friday.
This tragedy follows closely on the heels of another suicide case in the state, involving a 32-year-old man, Oluwaseun Shorinola, who died by suicide on August 28, 2024, in the Kemta area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Odutola Omolola, the deceased’s roommate, Obabiyi David, reported the matter to the Sango-Ota Police Division, expressing concern over Urhobocha’s erratic behavior. David disclosed that Urhobocha had attacked him with a knife, inflicting injuries before he managed to escape.
In response, officers from the Sango-Ota division were dispatched to question Urhobocha about the alleged assault. However, upon arrival, they found the apartment locked from the inside.
After several attempts, the police forced the door open and discovered Urhobocha lying lifeless, face down in the room.
Odutola said, “He was discovered dead in the apartment, with a container of insecticide found next to his body.
“He was promptly transported to a local hospital for medical attention, but the attending doctor confirmed him dead. His body has been placed in the morgue for an autopsy, and the incident remains under investigation.”
