Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s handling of Nigeria’s economic challenges, warning that it could lead to a prolonged and deeper domestic economic crisis.
Atiku, who contested as the PDP presidential candidate in 2023, emphasized the need for Tinubu and his economic management team to acknowledge their missteps and failures. He urged them to seek guidance from experts familiar with the economic terrain.
Expressing urgency, Atiku highlighted the detrimental impact of the new subsidy regime and the free-floating exchange rate policy on both people and businesses. He stressed that immediate action is necessary to prevent the economy from further deterioration.
In his remarks shared on X , Atiku underscored the widespread concern among Nigerians, both at home and abroad, regarding the country’s economic performance in recent weeks and months.
He criticized the tendency of blaming predecessors for economic challenges, describing it as a familiar tactic previously employed by former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
“Nigerians are gravely concerned, and rightly so, that Tinubu’s poor response to Nigeria’s economic challenges is setting the stage for a prolonged and deeper domestic economic crisis”.
He concluded that the gravity of the situation requires proactive measures to avert a deepening economic crisis under Tinubu’s leadership.
