The Dangote Group has refuted recent claims suggesting that it sold Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) at N898 per litre.
The company made this known in a statement issued on Sunday by its Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina.
Chiejina described the claims, allegedly made by NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye, as “misleading and mischievous,” asserting that they were intended to discredit the company’s recent achievements in addressing Nigeria’s energy challenges.
The clarification follows widespread reports that NNPCL had purchased fuel from Dangote at an inflated price of N898 per litre.
According to Chiejina, “This statement is both misleading and mischievous, deliberately aimed at undermining the milestone achievement recorded today, September 15, 2024, towards addressing energy insufficiency and insecurity, which has bedevilled the economy in the past 50 years.”
He urged Nigerians to dismiss the allegations and await an official statement on pricing from the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries. The sub-committee, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is expected to release its pricing framework on October 1, 2024.
Chiejina emphasized that the current stock of crude sold to NNPCL was procured in dollars, offering significant cost savings compared to current import prices.
“With this action, there will be petrol in every local government area of the country regardless of their remote nature. We assure Nigerians of availability of quality petroleum products and putting an end to the endemic fuel scarcity in the country,” he concluded.
