President Bola Tinubu has officially announced the dissolution of the Ministries of Niger Delta Affairs and Sports Development, marking a significant step in the reformation of Nigeria’s federal ministries.
This decision was made during a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday in Abuja.
To replace the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, the government will establish a new Ministry of Regional Development. This ministry is tasked with overseeing all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the North West Development Commission, the South West Development Commission, and the North East Development Commission. The primary objective of this reorganization is to enhance the coordination and efficiency of regional development initiatives across Nigeria.
In a related development, the responsibilities of the dissolved Ministry of Sports will be transitioned to the National Sports Commission, which will now handle the management and promotion of sports at all levels throughout the country. This shift is intended to foster a more dynamic and effective approach to sports administration and development.
Furthermore, the FEC has approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy. This strategic consolidation aims to strengthen the synergy between tourism and cultural sectors, ultimately boosting Nigeria’s tourism potential and creative industries.
These structural reforms reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to a more streamlined government that is better equipped to address the diverse developmental challenges facing Nigeria.
The changes are expected to facilitate more effective governance and drive sustainable economic growth in the country.
