Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has called on the Senate to support Uchenna Ubah, the widow of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah of Anambra South, to succeed her husband in the chamber.
Ndume made the appeal on Tuesday during a valedictory session held in honor of the late senator, who passed away in July at the age of 52.
“What I want to appeal to you, Mr. President, is that we keep the spirit and aspirations of Ifeanyi alive,” Ndume said.
Citing historical examples, Ndume referenced Margaret Okadigbo, who replaced her late husband in the Senate, and Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, who served in the Senate to support her husband’s vision.
He emphasized that Uchenna Ubah, as a strong support system for her late husband, would be an ideal choice to uphold his legacy and ensure continuity in representing the Anambra South Senatorial District.
“Let us support the family to have a spiritual representative of Ifeanyi here in the chamber when the election of Anambra of the senatorial district that he represents comes up. This will ensure continuity and honour for the Anambra South Senatorial District,” he added.
Ndume urged his colleagues and the Senate President to back this initiative in recognition of the late senator’s contributions and aspirations.
