The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially withdrawn money laundering charges filed against Tigran Gambaryan, an executive at Binance Holdings Limited.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had previously arraigned Binance, along with Gambaryan and Nadeem Anjarwalla, the British-Kenyan regional manager for Africa, over allegations involving $35 million in illicit transactions.
Gambaryan and Anjarwalla were initially held by the office of the National Security Adviser. However, Anjarwalla reportedly escaped lawful custody on March 22, 2024, while Gambaryan was later arraigned in April and subsequently remanded at the Kuje Correctional Facility.
During a session at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, the EFCC’s legal representative announced the decision to discontinue the charges against Gambaryan. The counsel explained that Gambaryan was only an employee of Binance and had no personal involvement in the transactions for which he was prosecuted.
