The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of all 20 chairmanship seats and 236 councillorship positions in the state’s local government elections held last Saturday.
Babatunde Osibodu, Chairman of OGSIEC, announced the results during a live broadcast from the commission’s headquarters in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, in the early hours of Sunday.
He stated that the ruling APC secured 613,156 votes across the 20 Local Government Areas and 236 wards in an election that featured multiple political parties.
Osibodu highlighted the participation of prominent parties, including the Accord Party (AP), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), Labour Party (LP), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Young Progressive Party (YPP). Lesser-known parties such as the Allied People’s Movement (APM), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Boot Party (BP), People’s Redemption Party (PRP), National Rescue Movement (NRM), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) also contested the election.
“When this report was filed, the commission said it would present the Certificates of Return to all elected chairmen, vice chairmen, and the 236 councillors-elect on Sunday.”
A statement issued by Osibodu, obtained by LEADERSHIP, confirmed that the Certificates of Return ceremony would take place at the commission’s headquarters in Abeokuta.
The APC’s sweeping victory underscores the party’s dominance in Ogun State, reaffirming its political stronghold ahead of future elections.
