The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the Benue State local government elections, winning all 23 chairmanship positions across the state, along with 276 councillorship seats.
The results were officially announced by Richard Tombowua, Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), on Sunday, October 6, 2024, following the elections held the previous day.
Announcing the results of the election at the headquarters of the commission located along Naka Road, Tombowua said that the APC won all 23 chairmanships and 276 councillorship positions contested in the state.
He said, “The election held yesterday across the state went off without a hitch; it was free and fair, and the returning officers have submitted all the results from the field.
“From the results, the All Progressives Congress won all 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship positions.
He added that five of the eight political parties that submitted lists of candidates participated in the Saturday election.
The SIEC chairman listed the parties that participated in the Saturday election as follows: All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, Social Democratic Party, and All Progressives Grand Alliance.
Responding to the declaration of the results, the state chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council and the Labour Party, Ibrahim Idoko, commended the commission for its commitment towards a hitch-free election.
Idoko, who also commended the state governor, Hyacinth Alia, for providing a level playing field for all parties in the election, stated that his party would review the outcome of the election and make its submission known at a later date.
Meanwhile, the APC has congratulated candidates of the party in the local government polls conducted by the BSIEC.
Chairman of the Benue chapter of the party, Comrade Austin Agada, congratulated the candidates on their resounding victories.
This was contained in a statement released on Sunday by the Publicity Secretary of the party, Daniel Ihomum.
Agada said the result of the polls shows how well-established, well-liked and widely accepted the APC is in Benue State.
“The party congratulates all members in the state and dedicates this victory to God and all of the people of Benue State, regardless of their political allegiance,” the statement said.
Agada noted that the victory in the local council polls will mark the beginning of developmental activities at the third tier of government in the state.
“The APC in Benue State will continue to champion the cause of democracy and good governance at all levels in the state to sustain its fortunes.
“The party sincerely thanks the people of Benue for their continuous support to the party,” he added.
